Debbie Lesko: The Electoral Connection In the book The Electoral Connection , David Mayhew makes the argument that the main goal of members of congress is reelection. Mayhew focuses on three different activities that members participate in that help them with reelection; Advertising: In The Electoral Connection, Mayhew's first activity that members of congress participate in is advertising.  Advertising is when a member of congress tries to get their name out to their constituents in order to make a better image for themselves. A recent example of Debbie Lesko participating in advertising is the news letters that she sends out frequently in order to keep her constituents informed on what she if doing. In the most recent news letter Lesko gives an update on the ways that she is still involved in what is going on in the 8th District of Arizona. Electoral History of Debbie Lesko in the House of Representatives: 2018 Election: In the 2018 election Debbie Lesko ran for the United States House of Representatives for the first time, after nine years in the Arizona House of Representative and the Arizona State Senate. In the primary election Congresswomen Lesko ran against Republican, Sandra Dowling, and won with 77% of the vote. Lesko won by so much because of her years in the Arizona State Legislature, and her ultra conservative views. In the general election, Lesko was up against Democrat Hiral Tipirneni. Debbie Lesko won the general election 55% to 44%. In the state of Arizona, this outcome was not a surprise within the 8th District. The District has not had a Democratic Representative since 2012, when Gabrielle Giffords did not run for another term.
